Archival Sources

The Commission has visited public, private and personal archives across the country seeking documentation that will shed light on the events being studied by the Commission. Researchers working for the Commission accessed historical documentation from Library and Archives Canada, Northwest Territories Archives, RCMP Archives, Hudson Bay Archives, Anglican Archives and the Archives Deschâtelets. Personal archives as well as libraries across Canada, such as Nunavut Court of Justice and Carleton University Library, were also accessed during the research process.

During the research phase, the Commission copied relevant records in an effort to make the information gathered more accessible to the public. During the last two years, the team has reviewed over 1000 files and collected more than 3000 documents representing about 20,000 pages. Despite the large number of files reviewed and documents discovered, only a small portion of the total archival record has been consulted. It is hoped this collection will be built upon by future researchers and partners. The Commission is now seeking copyright permission to post electronic copies of the records in English and Inuktitut on this website. As permissions are received more and more of the records will be posted here.

Please respect the copyright policy of the Commission and the host institutions that have generously granted the Commission the right to reproduce the archival material on this site.
